VC8 - protecting me from myself

OK, here’s something I like a lot about VC8. It’s a very small change, but it makes a lot of difference to me. The default behaviour of the ‘Stop Debugging’ button is now to detach from the external process rather than terminating it.

That might not sound like a big deal, but you’ve no idea how frustrating it was in previous versions, to be debugging a plugin to a 3rd-party application, e.g. an exporter loaded into XSI, and to accidentally hit the nice, friendly ‘Stop’ button in a fit of muscle memory and thereby trashing the external app (losing any content you’d changed of course). What you had to do previously was to drop down the Debug menu and choose ‘Detach All’ instead, thereby dropping out of debug but letting the external app carry on.

I’m so glad they’ve made that the default now. Saves me lots of ‘Doh!’ moments. 😕
