How many wealthy millionaires are into 3D Graphics ? But nice it will be.
Though actually a collaboration of not so wealthy, or collection of vast internal donated funds will also be good.
Also On Ubuntu, Mark shuutleworth is actually trying to get substantial sum of money in banks for continued Ubuntu development, so it will rely less on his own wealth and will actually will be very good in long run.
It is understandable as I also myself am commited to save substantial money whose interest will be sufficient to make me financially independent.
This seems a sane policy for all.
Result of that will be, I will break free from need of working for money, and for a open source project that means it will be truly independent.
That seems easier then finding the millionaire.

@Andrew: honestly I don’t feel qualified to do so; I figure I need to have built a successful business to do that, and so far what I have is ‘successful enough’, but not what I would consider a benchmark. Maybe in 5-10 years, if I’m still solvent

Steve, I have often thought that you would be the best person to write a book about profiting from an open source project. I’ve always wondered why you’ve never written a book on the subject?

The license of the TWiki code has not change. What changed was he term of use of the website. And what really got the community angry is that a new governance rules were imposed by the trademark holder (which, incidentally, had admin access to the site and the servers, and whose company owns the servers) that nobody in the commmunity was ready to accept. As the options where “accept them or go away”, we went away.

Reading about autodesk in the lounge forums had me thinking similar thoughts about Ogre. Its good to know you’re firm about this. Too bad we don’t have an interested billionaire to fund us to work on Ogre, that would be awesome.
