This are lot more co op title then I thought. Atleast Borderlands, Lord of the Rings: Conquest seem interesting.
On a different note I liked Fallout 3 very much. But I like Oblivion even more than it. Goodbye social life.
Fallout 3 is more focused then Oblivion though and Capital Wasteland is smaller in size.

Co-op is definately my favorite way to play console games over the past 2 years. All started with original Halo on xbox for me. I recently started playing Ace Combat 6 in co-op on XBL over the internet. Very enjoyable chatting with a friend over the headsets and attacking targets together, and covering for each other. The, "Oh, did you see that ship explode?" revelry is quite fun. :)

For some co-op 2D arcade style fun, I've found Castle Crashers very enjoyable. You should give this one a ride sometime Steve. :)

I was concentrating on games I owned, but yes there were others in 2008 too - LBP, Red Alert 3, Resitance 2 etc. It's definitely a growing trend, and I'm firmly in favour of it.

Excellent post.

However, I think you have omitted a co-op gem from 2008 though - LittleBigPlanet! At any moment you can turn on an extra pad and your character drops in, whether its whilst playing a level, creating a level, offline/online, and it all just works as you'd want it to. There are small sections of each level with require 2-4 players for you to collect all the items, encouraging people to play together.

I hope this trend continues in 2009, the focus on online modes this generation of consoles has sucked development team time from what used to be a major selling point - 2 (or more) people in the same room able to play a game together.

What about:

Aliens: Colonial Marines
Borderlands
Lord of the Rings: Conquest
Resident Evil 5
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.

All of these 2009 games have story-mode co-op, and that's probably not even all of them.

Arguably u are fully right.
but this year I donot see any Co-Op AAA games declared from major developers this year. The success of this ame may take sometime to propogate to turn more good Co-Op games quantitatvely and hopefully qualitatively also.
I am somuch fed up of monsters boss run sequences in gears, though rest of game is good.
Atleast Fable2 has great single player, but if they were touting co Op then it should have been good, not another thrown feature.
