Unite isn't very revolutionary in terms of the features it offers, it's just how it offers them which is interesting (simplifying self-hosting). Wave in comparison offers a new way to collaborate. But, they're both in a vanguard of services that can break out of the centralisation model, which is the major problem with most Web 2.0 offerings today IMO.
