Appreciating Quiet

Hey everyone, hope you had a good Christmas and New Year break.

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quieter of late, and there have been a number of reasons for that. I had to be a little more careful about what I talked about during the last quarter of 2015 because the company I work for went public (go TEAM!) - a new experience to tick off the list 😀 - and unintentionally that started a bit of a trend.

I scaled back even more on social media during the holidays and found that I liked the peace and quiet. I’ve reduced the feeling that I have to keep up with, and comment on, all the important news, and kept a lid on my need to correct people being wrong on Twitter - and there are so many of them - saving the inevitable, and often futile, back & forth that follows. This has made it easier to relax and concentrate on more important things. I’m getting better at filtering.

I’ll still be posting here and on Twitter sometimes, but I’m trying to only do it now when I have something I genuinely think will generate value rather than noise - for me and for readers. I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, but I guess this is the closest thing to it.

My various projects continue; I’m still contributing to Git LFS and SourceTree, and undoubtedly there will be things to be tweeted about both in future. I’ve made some good progress over Christmas on a new pen & paper RPG system I’ve been mulling for a while - thinking about systems that have to run in people’s heads instead of on a CPU is an interesting aside; if play testing of that goes well I’ll probably start publishing it online somewhere.

I’ll probably be kicking around the Digital Greenhouse at times when it opens, so you might see me there if you’re local. As always I have a ton of other projects waiting in a folder for me to look at sometime too; maybe I’ll talk about those sometime, if I get to spend any serious time with them. But generally, I think I’ll be a bit more low-key this year compared to previously. I guess we’ll see 😀

Anyhow, best wishes to you all for a great 2016!
